IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kathryn
Rogers
April 15, 1936 – June 12, 2024
Kathryn "Kathy" Golden Pitts Rogers, 88, of Crandall, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, June 12, 2024 in her home surrounded by loved loves.
Kathy was born April 15, 1936, in Louisville, Kentucky, where she grew up, a daughter of the late, Joseph and Marguerite Ferry Golden. Later as an adult, she relocated her family to Dalton, Georgia. Kathy loved people, and spent most of her life in service to others. Kathy was a waitress and came to Whitfield County in 1970, to manage Dalton's Village Inn Pizza Parlor. Later, she served her many regular customers at the Oakwood Cafe where she worked for 10 years. It was at The Oakwood where she was once recognized in the local newspaper for saving a man's life with her quick thinking by administering the Heimlich maneuver. She later settled in the Chatsworth, area and continued her lifelong love of serving others while employed at Edna's Restaurant, where she worked until her retirement. People would come from all over to be seated at one of her tables for a slice of pie and a good wholesome visit from their favorite waitress.
In her younger years, Kathy enjoyed spending time with her numerous friends at events around Dalton including the VFW where she loved to dance and met her husband, Larry. Together they enjoyed many hobbies including traveling the United States. In later years, Kathy loved to bake and sew quilts, and always had an open door, hot coffee, and a treat for company from friends and family. Or a rum and coke if you'd rather. A few of her favorite things included Elvis Pressley, the Kentucky Derby, daisies, the breathtaking beauty of Montana, the color green, a good book, and good conversation.
Kathy is survived by her loving husband, Larry Rogers, and would have celebrated their forty-first wedding anniversary on October 22, 2024; her daughters, Donna Pitts of Brazil, IN, Patricia (Bob) Skidmore of Kirkland, IL; son, Arden Clifford (Acey) and Melissa Kelshaw of Lindale, GA; grandchildren Courtney and Jen Carson, Christopher and Ruby Carson, Kathryn and Allen Bostic, Chad and Lori Carson, Curtis and Amanda Carson, Carrie Carson and Josh D. Bearden; fourteen great-grandchildren, her beloved pets, Miley, Stormy, Whitey and Whiskers. She was very much loved and will be greatly missed.
Kathy is preceded in death by her first husband, Jack Pitts who passed away in 1968, her infant son Arden William Kelshaw who passed away in 1969, and her daughter Carol Pitts Hollis who passed away in 2021 and a brother, Johnny Golden.
Services to celebrate the life of Kathryn "Kathy" Golden Pitts Rogers will be held Wednesday, June 19, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Ponders Melrose Chapel with Reverend George Ross officiating. She will be laid to rest at Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Murray County, Georgia, with Curtis Carson, Courtney Carson, Chad Carson, Mack Rogers, Allen Bostic and Acey Kelshaw honored to serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Tuesday and after 10:00 a.m. Wednesday until the service hour. Kathy's love for animals was equal to that of people. In lieu of flowers, she wishes anyone in attendance to bring a bag of dog food in order to assist with stray animals as they are being re-homed.
