Mr. J.W. Lamar Smith, age 59 of Tunnel Hill, Georgia, departed this life Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family and special friend and nurse, Kathleen Smith. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ike and Grace Wooten of Tunnel Hill, Benjamin and Josephine Smith of Dalton, and father-in-law, Ben Childers of LaFayette, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Lamar was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and was a member of Fairview Baptist Church in Rocky Face, Georgia. He was the former owner of L & K Motors.
Lamar is survived by his loving wife of forty-one years, Kathy Smith of the residence; children, Krista Smith Teasley, Lamar (Candra) Smith, Jason Smith and David Smith all of Tunnel Hill; grandchildren, Hunter Smith of Tunnel Hill, Rylan Smith of Dalton, Brody Smith of Rocky Face, Jasmine and Jordan Maly of Dalton, and Caitlyn Smith of Dahlonega; honorary children, Misty Gray, Chris Gray both of Rocky Face, Ashley Reyes of Dalton; parents, Pauline and Mac Chadwick of Rocky Face, Vinson and Dimple Smith of Resaca; brothers, Denton Smith of Rocky Face, Lamont (Angie) Smith of Tunnel Hill; sister, Suzanne Smith Wilson of Resaca; mother-in-law, Joyce Childers of Dalton; brothers-in-law, Waymon Childers of Dalton, Jimmy Rogers of LaFayette; sister-in-law, Jackie Rogers (Donald Roach) of LaFayette; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hamilton Hospice, Hamilton Home Health, Hamilton EMS and Hamilton Wound Care Center for the exceptional care and love bestowed upon us by these wonderful people.
Services to celebrate the life of Mr. J.W. Lamar Smith will be held Friday, June 5, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Ponders Melrose Chapel with Reverend Clifford Chambers officiating. He will be laid to rest at Whitfield Memorial Gardens with Cody Jones, Dylan Jones, Jimmy Crider, Hoyt Kinsey, Randy Kinsey and Lee Ingle serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Thursday and after 11:00 a.m. Friday until the service hour.
