Mrs. Julia Jeanette Smith, age 80, of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life Sunday evening, July 16, 2023, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

Julia was born August 20, 1942, in Robbinsville, North Carolina, a daughter of the late Vincent and Rosie Jenkins Trull. She was also preceded in death by her first husband and son who died in a car accident in 1968, Joe Franklin Prater and Joseph Prater, her sister and brother-in-law, Beryl and Glenn Watkins, brothers and sister-in-law, Furman Trull, Thad Trull, Stacey and Leota Trull, Othel Trull and Gerald Trull.

Julia retired from G.T.E., where she worked as an operator and service representative.

She is survived by her husband, Neil Smith of the residence; daughter and son-in-law, Paulette and Randle Burgess of Rocky Face, GA; sister-in-law, Louise Trull of Cohutta, GA; mother-in-law, Julia Ridings of Dalton, GA; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Kelly and Andera Ridings of Ringgold, GA; several nieces and nephews.

Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Julia Jeanette Smith will be held Thursday, July 20, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at Ponders Melrose Chapel. She will be laid to rest at Ponders Colonial Hills Memorial Park Cemetery and Mausoleum with Kelly Ridings, Bobby Baker, Clint Cooper, Zachary Ridings, Clayton Ridings and Nicholas Ridings honored to serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and after 11:00 a.m. Thursday until the service hour.
