Obituary

Johnny "John" Clarence Sisson, age 72, of Cohutta, Georgia, passed away unexpectedly on October 24th, 2020 due to complications from a medical procedure. He went peacefully with his son and daughter by his side.

Life is often filled with questions, and one that illuminates John's life is, "What can you find in the pocket of a good man?".

Loving the simple things in life, as a child, he was known to always carry one of his mom's homemade biscuits in the pocket of his overall's, so he had a snack with him as he played (photographic evidence does exist). As he grew older, he became a skilled handyman who always carried a pocket knife, which proved to be the right tool for many jobs. He was also a skilled wood worker who built sturdy picnic tables for family gatherings and took a lot of pride in building cradles for every grandchild, great grandchild, and other people special to him. He was also known to always carry a handkerchief, which was used to wipe the sweat from his brow, or dry tears from loved ones eyes, and occasionally wipe the runny nose of his children and grandchildren.

He was a strong, gentle man with a tender heart towards others. He loved God and his family dearly. He was also a true patriot – taking great pride in the rights afforded to him as an American.

When he first found salvation in Jesus, he dedicated his life back to his Creator and took an active role in supporting the church through the years as a Sunday School Teacher, Deacon, and Trustee. He never stopped studying the Word of God throughout his life and was a prayer warrior who placed his trust in the Almighty. His family always turned to him when they needed prayer. He also had a desire, a courage, and a tender approach to sharing the gospel with any stranger he met. When Cedar Valley Church of God began doing drive through prayer, he felt a calling to participate and never missed it. He was often seen on the roadside holding up a sign actively inviting people who drove by to come in and pray with them.

He loved his family and worked hard to ensure they had the best he could provide. He believed that we go through life as caretakers rather than owners and gave thanks accordingly. When it came to trucks, he felt Ford was the best. But the thing he enjoyed most was spending time with his family, whether that was teaching his grandchildren the virtues of fishing with pink worms and his desire to always catch a carp (regardless of the body of water he would be fishing in). He never missed a game with the family, often being seen in the stands keeping stats for his grandkids. He also loved his brothers and sisters and often shared childhood stories of going hunting with his brothers and picking hickory nuts for his mom.

His wife Frankie Sisson was truly the love of his life. They were always together. There wasn't a day that went by that he didn't tell her how much he loved her. Whether that was through cranking her car in the winter before she left for work, filling her tank with gas so that she never had to, or leaving little love notes for her.

He leaves a legacy of love and faith for his family and friends. He was born to the late Estlene Hammontree and George Sisson, on February 14th, 1948 in Dalton, Georgia. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of fifty-four years, Frankie Jean Sisson who died August 25, 2020; his brother Gary Sisson, of Dalton; brothers-in-law, D H "Peanut" Howard, Herman Stanley and Danny Patterson; sister in law Faye Rigsby, and his step-mother, Jessie Webb-Sisson.

He is survived by daughter and son-in-law Angie and Cary Callaway, of Cohutta, GA; son and son-in-law Jonathan and Kyle Sisson, of Roswell, GA; brother in law and sister-in-law Jimmy and Deanna Jorden, of Dalton; sister in law Patsy Howard, of Dalton; grand children Joshua Callaway, of Dalton; Nathan and April Callaway, of Cohutta; and great grandchildren Cally Callaway, Walker Callaway, and Emma-Kate Callaway; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bobby and Charlene Sisson, Charles and Kathleen Sisson, and Brenda Sisson; sisters, Betty Stanley and Carolyn Patterson; aunt, Sue Goss all of Dalton, GA; and several nieces, nephews and many cousins.
