Mr. Johnny Lamar Brooks, age 66, of Rocky Face, Georgia, departed this life, Saturday afternoon, April 15, 2017 at the local hospital. Johnny was born December 5, 1950 in Dalton, Georgia, a son of the late James Lee and Jennie Ruth Pickens Brooks. He was a 1969 graduate of Westside High School. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was retired from F & R Sales Sport Wear where he was the manager for over forty years. After his retirement he worked for Sample Concepts for three years.
Johnny loved mowing the yard, making a garden in the spring time and anything outdoors.
Johnny was also preceded in death by a brother, Jessie Brooks, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Otis and Della Defore, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Barbara Defore, Dean Brooks and Ola Mae Brooks, Mike Hough, Jimmy Defore and Calvin Defore.
Johnny is survived by his loving wife, Kathy Defore Brooks of the home and would have celebrated their forty-sixth wedding anniversary June 11, 2017; sons, Matt Brooks and his wife, Holly, Casey Brooks and his fiance, Kimberly Blackstock; grandchildren, Christina Gresham, Hunter Brooks, twins Trinity and Tiffany Brooks; his little Jack Russell Terrier and special companion, Baby Brooks all of Rocky Face, GA; brothers, Harley Brooks of Dalton, GA, Roscoe Brooks of Calhoun, GA, Olan and Diane Brooks of Rocky Face, GA; sisters-in-law, Joliene Defore of Tunnel Hill, GA, and Sandra Hough of Calhoun, GA; brother-in-law, Timmy and Gayle Defore of Tunnel Hill, GA; cousin and special friend, Billy Joe Pickens of Rocky Face, GA; several nieces, nephews and many cousins.
Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Johnny Lamar Brooks will be held Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Ponders Melrose Chapel with Reverend Harold Blackstock officiating. He will be laid to rest at Dunagan Cemetery in Rocky Face, Georgia, with Hunter Brooks, Billy Joe Pickens, Gary Carlock, Gary Arnold, David Arnold, Jeff Pickens, Kenny Brooks and Bryan Blackstock serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Monday after 11:00 a.m. Tuesday until the service hour.
