IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John Wilson
Jr.
May 19, 1938 – April 24, 2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, John Holland Wilson Jr. He was preceded in death by our mother, Susan Fisher Wilson. He is survived by his daughters Audrey McKenzie, Catherine Ward, and his Son, John H Wilson III. Born and raised in Hawkinsville, Georgia, he was the eldest of five children. His mother worked in a cotton mill, and his father was a carpenter.
He proudly served in the Air Force as an aircraft mechanic, which took him to Africa, Gibraltar, the Azores, and other places he could only dream of as a boy from rural Georgia.
He met our mother at a USO event in Miami, Florida, in the late 1950s, and they soon married. Together, they raised three children, two daughters and a son.
Though his life was mostly dedicated to work, he enjoyed simple pleasures like fishing and hunting with his faithful but ill-tempered black and tan coonhound, Ham. In later years, he became a talented artist, creating detailed woodcarvings of wildlife. He also enjoyed gardening alongside our mother, taking special pride in their hostas and azaleas.
Above all, he loved our mother more than anything else in this world. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
The family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel on Saturday May 3, 2025, beginning at 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M.
Arrangements by Ponders Melrose Chapel, 138 Melrose Drive, Dalton, GA 30721 – (706) 226-4002. Your Selected Independent Funeral Home.
