Mr. John Daniel Burgess, Sr., age 88, of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life Thursday, November 23, 2023, at his home. John was born October 3, 1935, in Polk County, Tennessee, a son of the late, Dallas Crawford and Jeanette Mae Cantrell Burgess, he was also preceded by his first wife, Charlotte Ann Burgess, who died March 5, 1974, a son, Frank Lock, sisters, Freda Gibson, Wanda Lawson, brother, Ed Burgess, sister-in-law, Frances Burgess and a brother-in-law, Roy Horner.

He is survived by his wife, Yvonne Rogers Lock Burgess of the residence; daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Wayne Jones of Varnell, GA, Karen and Jerry Ledford of Dalton, GA, Carol and Danny Goble of Dalton, GA; sons and daughters-in-law, Ernie and Angela Burgess of Varnell, GA, Scott and Kelly Burgess of Tunnel Hill, GA, Danny and Lisa Burgess of Dalton, GA, and Tim Lock of Varnell, GA; sisters and brother-in-law, Bernice and Wallace Overton of Dalton, GA, Melba Jean Horner of Cisco, GA; brother, Ben Burgess of Chatsworth, GA; eighteen grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Services to celebrate the life of Mr. John Daniel Burgess will be held Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. at Ponders Melrose Chapel with Reverend Tony Robertson officiating.  He will be laid to rest beside his first wife at West Hill Cemetery with Josh Burgess, Ryan Burgess, Taylor Ledford, Cale Ledford, Christopher Jones, Brandon Goble, and Wayne Lock honored to serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel from 5:00 p.m. 9:00 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday after 11:00 a.m. until the service hour.
