Mr. John Tate Banks, age 81, of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life Thursday April 18, 2024, at the local hospital. He was born on July 4, 1942 in Ellijay, Georgia, to the late Dennis and Ola Banks. John is a member of Calvary Baptist Church. In his spare time you would find him hunting, fishing, gardening, mowing grass, or attending a gospel singing.
In addition to his parents he is predeceased by his first wife, Juanita Hayes Banks of forty-one years, wife, Faye Banks of thirteen years, son, Tony Johnson, daughter, Cindy Ensley, and brothers, Donny Banks and Arnold Lee Banks.
He is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law, Chris and Shannon Banks of Dalton, GA and Mike Johnson of Winder, GA; daughters and son-in-law; Michelle and Jody Seawright of Statham, GA, Lisa and Alan Ledford of Dalton, GA, and Terri Jones of Statham, GA; son-in-law, Evans Ensley of Ellijay, GA; brother and sister-in-law, D.L. and Wilma Banks; sisters and brothers-in-law, Virginia and Jackie Wyatt and Margret and Johnny Weathers; grandchildren; Adam and Mandy Banks, Matthew and Lindsey Banks, Emily and Klayton Beard, Carli and Zack Bowen, Cole Ledford, Jodi Johnson, Dustin Seawright, Riley Seawright, Jake Ruark, Peyton Seawright, Ashleigh and Billy Joe Willoughby; 13 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services to celebrate the life of Mr. John Banks will be held Tuesday, April 23, 2023, at 4:00 p.m. from the Ponders Melrose Chapel with Brother Matt Dibler and Reverend Keely Hasty officiating. He will be laid to rest beside his wife at the New Hope Cemetery in Tunnel Hill, Georgia, with Chris Banks, Jody Seawright, Adam Banks, Cole Ledford, Zack Bowen, Klayton Beard, Steve Langford, Josh Land, Jimmy Hasty and Matthew Banks serving as pallbearers. Military graveside honors will be provided by the Dalton American Legion Post #112.
The family will receive friends Monday, April 22, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the Ponders Melrose Chapel, and after 12:00 p.m. noon Tuesday until the service hour.
