Obituary

Mr. Jimmy Cooper, age 79, of Rossville, Georgia, and formerly of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at CHI Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Jimmy was born July 21, 1945, in Briceville, Tennessee, a son of the late Henry Joseph "Joe" and Gertie Mae Shawn Cooper.  He was also preceded in death by his wife, Paulette Saylors Defoe Cooper, brothers, Oscar Cooper, Luther Cooper, Johnny Cooper, Henry Frank Cooper, sisters, Mary Ruth Cooper, Evelyne Cooper, Hazel Cooper, Lillian Robins, his twin, Margie Barkley, brother-in-law, Harvey Patterson.

Jimmy was retired from Shaw Industries and was a member of Gateway Baptist Church in Rossville, Georgia. Jimmy loved watching old westerns and hanging out with his friends.

He is survived by his daughter, Michelle Guffey; grandson, Colton Blake Guffey; great-grandson, Colton Eston Blake Guffey all of Rossville, GA; sister, Lois Patterson of Dalton, GA; best friends, Joe Freeman and Jimmy Farrow; several nieces and nephews.

Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Jimmy Cooper will be held Wednesday morning, May 28, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Ponders Melrose Chapel with Reverend James Helton officiating. He will be laid to rest with his family at Ponders Colonial Hills Memorial Park Cemetery, with Michael Headrick, Justin Grissom, Dakota Grissom, Colton Guffey, Tony Headrick, and James Farrow honored to serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Tuesday and after 9:00 a.m. Wednesday until the service hour.
