Funeral services for Jay Leatherwood, 82, of Ashburn, GA will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, February 23, 2019 at Bethel Baptist Church. Mr. Leatherwood passed away Tuesday at Tift Regional Medical Center. Private Interment will be in the Chandler Cemetery in Calhoun, GA.

The son of the late John Abner and Gaylord McFarland Leatherwood, he was born in Calhoun, GA and attended The Bethel Baptist Church in Sycamore, GA. He was a retired engineer and served his country in the U.S. Air force. Mr. Leatherwood was a pilot and enjoyed flying his plane. He was one of the founders of The Fireant Festival Committee and loved his community. Mr. Leatherwood was a very friendly gentleman and never met a stranger.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sons, Raymone Leatherwood and Dale Leatherwood; his siblings, Evelyn Fucarelli, James Leatherwood, Ruby Martin and Eugene Leatherwood.

Survivors include his loving wife, Shirley Leatherwood and his children Robin L. Hubbard both of Ashburn and Richard (Donna) Leatherwood of Spartanburg, SC.; grandchildren, Zachary Leatherwood, Alex Hubbard and Spenser Hubbard. He is also survived by his brother, William Roy Leatherwood of Chatsworth, GA.

The family will receive friends, Saturday from 1:00 PM until the hour of service at Bethel Baptist Church.
