Mrs. Janie Saylors Gallman, age 84, of Chatsworth, Georgia, departed this life on Thursday afternoon, October 16, 2025, at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Janie was born April 12, 1941, in Murray County, Georgia, a daughter of the late William M. "Bill" and Ethel Ledford Saylors. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of sixty-two years, Henry "Bo" Gallman, who passed away on October 31, 2021; grandson, Jarrod Betterton; daughter-in-law, Robin Gallman, son-in-law, George Lamar Ridley; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Henry J. and Annie Bishop Gallman; brothers, Henry Saylors and Lloyd Saylors; sisters, Betty and Marvin McGill, Mamie and Curtis Grace, and Nan and Howard Hooker; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Ima Lee and T.L. Caylor, Ora Mae and Doc Greeson, Houston Quarles, Glenn Bishop, and Jim Bishop.
Janie was a simple lady who lived a life filled with honesty, kindness, and love. She never had any trouble speaking her mind and treated everyone she met with the same respect and sincerity. Her greatest joy in life came from her family—especially her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren—each of whom she loved deeply and unconditionally. She was devoted to her husband, Henry "Bo" Gallman, and after his passing, her heart was never quite the same. Today, she is joyfully reunited with him, their grandson, and other loved ones who have gone before.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Shena and Paul Betterton, Patricia Gallman all of Chatsworth, GA, and Sara and Ricky Roper of Tunnel Hill, GA; sons and daughters-in-law, Randy Gallman, Russell and April Gallman all of Chatsworth, GA, Marty Gallman of Ringgold, GA, and Matthew and Keisha Gallman of Murphy, NC; grandchildren, Joseph and Whitney Betterton, Nathan and Kristy Coram, Allen and Fantasia Gallman, Breanna Gallman and Josh Gibson, Hailey Gallman, Ayron Gallman, Tyler and Melanie Gallman, Bryson and Hannah Gallman, Dylan Ridley and Bel Rodriguez, Patricia Ridley, Austin Gallman, Justin Gallman, Noah Gallman, Madison Gallman, and Lacy Gallman; great-grandchildren, Kole Betterton, Jailyne Betterton, Landon Betterton, Anderson Betterton, Molly Gallman, Jasper Byrd, Kruell Gibson, Jaxson Green-Coram, Gunnar Green-Coram, Presley Green-Coram, Anakin Ridley, Luciana Rodriguez-Ridley, Ansleigh Gallman, Blaine Gallman, Lincoln Gallman, Lilly Gallman, and Lawson Betterton; sister, Carolyn Quarles of Chatsworth, GA; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bobbie Bishop of Spring Place, GA, Charles and Diane Gallman, Effie Bishop, and Georgia Gallman all of Chatsworth, GA; and several nieces and nephews.
Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Janie Gallman will be held Tuesday morning, October 21, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Ponders Melrose Chapel with Reverend John Souther officiating. Music will be arranged by Lisa McGill. She will be laid to rest with her family at Holly Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Murray County, Georgia, with her grandsons honored to serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Monday evening and after 9:00 a.m. Tuesday morning until the service hour.
