Mr. James Melvin Quarles, age 73, of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life Wednesday morning, August 26, 2020 at his home surrounded by his loving family.  James was born May 2, 1947 in Gilmer County, Georgia, a son of the late Dallas Lando and Vera Susan Edwards Quarles. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Frances Quarles and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, R.W. and Ethel Roper.

He was the owner of JaLyn Wholesale Carpets and Rug Company.  He loved antique cars, motorcycles, reading and collecting cars and antiques.  He was a member of the Antique Automobile Club of America and the G. W. R. R. A. (Gold Wing Road Riders Association. He attended the Trinity House of Faith.

He is survived by his loving wife, Lynda Roper Quarles and would have celebrated their fifty-fifth wedding anniversary, December 21, 2020; daughter and son-in-law, Shannon and John Massingill of Dalton, GA; sons and daughter-in-law, Robby and Tracy Quarles of Dalton, GA, Bobby Quarles of Summerville, GA; grandchildren, Jordan Quarles, Jackson Quarles, Makayla Quarles, Gavin Massingill and Brody Massingill; great-grandson, Maverick Quarles; sisters and brothers-in-law, Vickie and Greg Roberts, Diane and Russell Guinn all of Dalton, GA; special friends, Frank and Barbara Cronan of Dalton, GA; former daughter-in-law, Michelle Lidy of Dalton, GA; several nieces, nephews and many friends. He is also survived by his loving fur baby's, Gracie his loyal lab greyhound, Chi-Chi and Jack his protectors, Squeaky his loveable Chihuahua, and his three cats, T-T, Tripod and Blue.

Services to celebrate the life of Mr. James Melvin Quarles will be held Saturday, August 29, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. at Ponders Melrose Chapel with Reverend Frank Cronan, Reverend Toby Chastain and Reverend Timothy Parker officiating.  He will be laid to rest at the Subligna Cemetery in Chattooga, County, Georgia, with Ryan Guinn, Gregory Roberts, Tony Walston, Freddie Gomez, Randy Joyner, Russell Guinn, Greg Roberts, Phil Philyaw and Gene Quarles honored to serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Friday and after 11:00 a.m. Saturday until the service hour.

Due to the National health crisis and the Covid-19 virus, masks must be worn properly at all times and social distancing must be observed when visiting the funeral home.
