Mr. James William McCurdy, age 80, of Dalton, GA, a loving and devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, passed away Friday, May 15, 2026, at his residence. He was born February 13, 1946, in Dalton, Georgia, a son of the late William Bruce McCurdy Jr. and Dessie Mae Brock McCurdy. He is also proceeded in death by his sister, Carol Elaine McCurdy Hullender; and brothers-in-law, Donald Campbell, Joe Hullender, George Nelson, Mike Trammell, and John Cockburn, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Raymond Trammell and Myrtis Trammell and Norman Awtrey.

He was a lifelong member of Maddox Chapel Baptist Church, where he was also served as a deacon and Adult Sunday School teacher for many years. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Amedisys Home Health and Hospice for their excellent and loving care.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Brenda Trammell McCurdy of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Steven and Pam McCurdy of Dalton, GA, Mark and Lynn McCurdy of Chatsworth, GA, Tim and April McCurdy of Dalton, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Wesley Banks of Ellijay, GA; grandchildren Amanda and David Pope of Silver Creek, GA, Josh and Crystal McCurdy of LaFayette, GA, Kaila and Brandon Ogle of Phenix City, AL, Ashlea and Spencer Earls of Cleveland, TN, Colton McCurdy of Ringgold, GA, Abigail and Avery Rogers of Dalton, GA, Logan McCurdy of Ringgold, GA, Aaron and Peyton McCurdy of Tunnel Hill, GA, Ethan and Julibelle Banks of Ellijay, GA, Mackenzie and Garrett Martin of Ellijay, GA, Peyton McCurdy of Chatsworth, GA; great grandchildren Mason Webb, Wyatt, Emory, and Ellie McCurdy, Lexie and Kinleigh Ogle, Brynleigh and Wradley Earls, Lydee and Bennett Rogers; sister, Glenda Campbell of Rocky Face, GA; brothers and sisters-in-law, Roger and Doris McCurdy of Dalton, GA, Don and Kay McCurdy of Chatsworth, GA; sisters-in-law, Pat Cockburn of Crandall, GA, Cynthia Trammell of Villanow, GA; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Rickey and Lisa Trammell of Chatsworth, GA; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.

A service to celebrate the life of Mr. James William McCurdy will be held on Monday, May 18, 2026, at 2:00pm from the Maddox Chapel Baptist Church, with Rev. Ronnie Shadwick and Bro. Ethan Banks officiating. Interment will follow in the Brock Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Aaron McCurdy, Peyton McCurdy, Ethan Banks, Garrett Martin, Avery Rogers, Wayne Campbell, and Josh McCurdy. Honorary Pallbearers are David Pope, Mason Webb, Spencer Earls, and Brandon Ogle.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 17, 2026, from 5:00pm until 9:00 p.m. at Maddox Chapel Baptist Church, 2215 Maddox Chapel Rd., Dalton, GA, 30721, and after 11:00 a.m. Monday until the service hour.
