Mr. James "Jim" Leroy Cooper, age 86, of Dalton, Georgia departed this life Friday evening, October 31, 2014 at his residence. James was born May 11, 1928 in Knoxville, Tennessee, a son of the late Silas and Estelle Parrish Cooper. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ruth Cooper and brother Samuel Cooper. He was a faithful member of the Dalton First United Methodist Church where he served as usher and member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class. Jim was active in the community as a volunteer for DOC-UP and Meals on Wheels.
He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela and Bryan Bassler of Birchwood, TN, Muncie Cooper-Harbin and Larry Harbin of Knoxville, TN; sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Bill Thorpe of Knoxville, TN; special friend, Betty Posten of Dalton, GA; grandchildren, Jason Gray, Ashlee Dalrymple, Shawn Gray.
Service to celebrate the life of Mr. James Leroy Cooper will be held Saturday, November 8, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church.
The family will receive friends in the Atrium of the First United Methodist Church from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Saturday November 8, 2014.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to DOC-UP in care of Dalton First United Methodist Church.
