Mr. James Edward Lawless, age 87, of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life Friday morning August 1, 2025, at the local hospital.

James was born September 8, 1937, in Whitfield County, Georgia, a son of the late Sam and Martha Beal Lawless. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Magaline Hunter Lawless, son and daughters-in-law, Alan and Brenda Lawless and Mary Elizabeth Lawless, brothers, Frank Lawless and L.B. Lawless.

James worked and retired from Bearden Electric Motors in Dalton, Georgia, for over thirty years. In his retirement he was a homebody who loved his family and watching old westerns to pass the time. James will be remembered as a sweet, loving father, he will be missed.

He is survived by his sons, Joe Lawless and Sammy Lawless; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Wayne Sosebee all of Dalton, GA; James was blessed with nine grandchildren, Kevin Lawless, Corey and Whitlee Lawless, Timothy Lawless, Briana Sosebee, Eric and Shelby Sosebee, Scotty Lawless, Melissa Lawless and Jacob Lawless; Jermey Lawless; and eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Services to celebrate the life of Mr. James Edward Lawless will be held Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at Ponders Melrose Chapel with Billy Starks officiating. He will be laid to rest with his wife at United Memorial Gardens with Kevin Lawless, Corey Lawless, Eric Sosebee, Kenny Welch, Wayne Sosebee, and Jasper Lawless honored to serve as pallbearers.  The family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel after 9:00 a.m. Tuesday morning until the service hour.
