Obituary

James Murray "Jim" Cash, age 73, of Hixson, departed this life on April 2, 2022, to be with his Messiah, Jesus.

Jim was born in Chattanooga on September 14, 1948 to Joseph and Miriam Cash.

The second of four boys, Jim grew up on Missionary Ridge in Chattanooga. After graduating from Brainerd High School, he studied at Peabody College for a year before returning to Chattanooga to start his own business providing commercial and residential remodeling services. Jim loved his work and was considered a skilled craftsman by his many customers. His work included the remodeling of many notable houses in Chattanooga.

Jim was an accomplished nature and wildlife photographer who loved traveling to local and remote locations to capture the beauty of God's creation. One of his photos won a National Geographic award, and his work has been praised by numerous published photographers.

Jim cared deeply about excellence in all aspects of his life, including his work and his photography. He was honest, humble, compassionate, wise, philosophical, silly, and always ready with an encouraging word. Jim loved life, and he saw beauty everywhere.

Jim married Harriet Graebner on June 10, 2000 in Chattanooga, and stepped into a new, and much longed-for, role as "dad" to Harriet's three children. Over the twenty-one years that he was with us, we grew closer as a family due to his kindness and compassion, and from the way in which he lived his love for God and God's Word. He shared with the family his love of beauty, truth, and the outdoors through camping, hiking, and backyard hot dog roasts.

He is survived by his wife Harriet, children James, David, and Annie (husband Stephen), and two younger brothers David and Daniel. Jim was preceded in death by his older brother Allen.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30pm on Friday, April 4, 2022 at Hixson Presbyterian Church, 1450 Jackson Mill Dr, Hixson, TN, 37343.

Donations in honor of Jim may be made to Maoz Israel (maozisrael.org), Jewish Voice (jewishvoice.org), or the Tennessee River Gorge Trust (trgt.org).
