Mr. James Leon Hughes Sr., age 73, of Rocky Face, Georgia, departed this life Sunday afternoon, May 13, 2018 at his home. James was born May 2, 1945 in Dalton, Georgia, a son of John Nelson and Annie Mae Crider Hughes. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Nelson, Lowell, Joe, Homer, and Carl Hughes, sisters, Lethia and Loyd Singleton, Evelyn and Dennis Elrod, Johnnie and Clyde Brindle, Marilyn Hughes and Sharilyn Hughes.
James was married to the love of his life Lorraine "Babe" Hughes for 53 years.
Along with his loving wife he is also survived by his son and daughter-in-law, James "Jamie" Hughes Jr. and Diane Hughes of Dalton, GA; daughters and son-in-law, Norene and Monty Long of Rocky Face, GA: brothers and sisters-in-law, Jacob and Glenda Hughes, Edward and Imogene Hughes, Charles and Diane Hughes sisters and brother-in-law, Margaret and Howard Partion, Geneva Walker; grandchildren, Trip and Tori Hester, Josh Hester, Kiara Hughes, Kaleb Hughes, Jordan Long, Kaley Long; great grandchildren, Izzy Avery, Anlene Hester; second daughter, Melina White; several nieces and nephews.
Service to celebrate the life of Mr. James Leon Hughes Sr. will be held Wednesday May 16, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. from the Church of God of the Union Assembly in Murray County with Reverend Lonnie Starnes, Reverend Herbie Pratt, and Reverend Edward Hughes officiating. Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery with Josh Hester, Jordan Long, Trip Hester, Kaleb Hughes, Steve Hughes, Timmy Hughes, Terry Granger, and Gene Floyd serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
