Obituary

Mr. James Walter Elsberry, age 87, of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at the local hospital. James was born June 3, 1930 in Walker County, GA, a son of the late Walter and Grace Mae Kenemer Elsberry. He was also preceded in death by his first wife Sara Beth Smith Elsberry, sisters, Irene Underwood, Arlene Rittenhouse, Montyne Duncan, Sue Smith. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. He served with the Military Police at Ft. Mead, Maryland during the Korean Conflict.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Travillian Elsberry of the residence; son and daughter-in-law, David and Anne-Marie Elsberry of Wake Forest, NC; daughter and son-in-law, Sandee and David Witherow of Chatsworth, GA; grandchildren, Nathan Weeks, Gregory Weeks, Christopher Elsberry, Zachary Weeks, Maegen Elsberry, Maria Weeks, Kimberly Weeks, and Erin Elsberry; stepdaughter, Gloria Neal and her husband Harry; step grandsons, Jonathan Neal and his wife Karen, Zachary Neal and his wife Katie; step great grandchildren, Robert Jackson, Maddie, Charlie and Drew Neal; nieces, Dorothy Gray and Shirley Hayes; several other family members.

Service to celebrate the life of Mr. James Walter Elsberry will be held Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 3:30 p.m. from the Ponders Melrose Chapel with Bill Floyd and Gordon Delashmitt officiating. Interment will follow in the Whitfield Memorial Gardens. The family will receive at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday and from 1:00 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bethel United Methodist Church, 123 Bethel Church Road, Dalton, GA 30721.
