Mr. James "Flute" Mathews, age72, of Cartersville GA, departed this life on October 26 2020 at the Cartersville Medical Center. He was born October 3, 1948, a son of the late Homer Lonis and Geraldine Guyndelin Hightower Mathews. He was also preceded in death by grandparents, Henry W. and Angie Dean Hightower and Harrison and Ola Higdon Mathews, an infant brother, and brothers Charles Kenneth "Rosey" Mathews and Jerry Norman "Lum" Mathews, sister, Sybil Crider; grandson, Reece Harris. Flute enjoyed racing and loved watching NASCAR and Wild Bill Elliot from Dawsonville, GA
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Matthews of Cartersville, GA; son, Jason Mathews of Fairmount; step-daughter, Tammy Harris; brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald "Goat" and Deborah Mathews of Ludville, GA, Randy Joe "Boo Boo" and Cheryl Mathews of Fairmount, GA, Tim "Waldo" Mathews of Calhoun, GA, Gene "Bull" and Sherry Mathews of Jasper, GA, Ann Mathews of Plainville, GA; sisters and brother-in-law, Sandra and David Burch of Fairmount, GA, Gail Burch of Florence, SC, Karen and Tony Cannon of Plainville, GA; Steven Crider Sr. of Fairmount, GA; grandchildren, Summer, Alyssa, Layla, Natasha, Tony, Danny; great-grandchildren; Payton, Skyy, Gauge, Dalton, Kena, Jayce, Eryn, Braxton; great-great grandchildren, Asher; several nieces and nephews.
Service to celebrate the life of Mr. James "Flute" Mathews will be held Saturday, October 31, 2020 at1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in the Goshen Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Casey Mathews officiating. Pallbearers will be Joseph Mathews, Justin Delong, Dan Crider, Steve Crider Jr, Cameron Mathews, Nathan Holt, Gage Lee, Dalton Stringer.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 pm Friday October 30, 2020
Due to the National health crisis and the Covid-19 virus, masks must be worn properly at all times and social distancing must be observed when visiting the funeral home.
