Mr. James Edward Chitwood, Jr., better known as "Jim" by his family and friends, of Calhoun, Georgia, departed this life on Monday, January 22, 2018 in Opelika, Alabama. Jim was born in Calhoun, Georgia, on November 8, 1961, a son of the late James Edward Chitwood Sr, better known as "Jimmy" and the late Lois Annette James. He was also preceded in death by his little Rottweiler, Lady Bug #1.
Jim was a graduate of the Calhoun High School class of 1979. He worked for many years with the BellSouth in Communications and most recently was employed by Regions Bank in Calhoun. Jim had a passion and an avid love for animals.
Jim is survived by his brothers and sister-in-law, Derrick and Melissa Towe of Calhoun, Georgia, Terry Chitwood of Dalton, Georgia, and Jamie Chitwood also of Cahoun, Georgia; niece and nephews, Jordan Towe and Brooklyn Towe; his little rescue dog that he loved dearly, Lady Bug #2; several aunts, uncles, cousins, and special friends also survive.
Jim's family will receive friends on Sunday, January 28, and Monday, January, 29, 2018 from the hours of 5:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M.
A service to celebrate the life of Jim Chitwood will be held on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at 1:00 P.M. from the Calhoun Chapel of Ponders Funeral Home with Reverend Carll Converse officiating.
Jim will be laid to rest at the Sugar Valley Cemetery. Steve Sparks, Steve Brock, Richard Towe, Phillip Beavers, Chris Hollingsworth, and Jeffrey James will be honored to serve as pallbearers. Stacy James will serve as an honorary escort.
