Mr. James H. "Jimmy" Tolliver Jr., age 77, of Chatsworth, Georgia, departed this life Wednesday evening, March 12, 2014 at Hamilton Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. Jimmy was born August 5, 1936 in Dalton, GA, a son of the late James H. Tolliver Sr. and Alice Taylor Tolliver. He was also preceded in death by a son, Fitzgerald Moses, brother, Willie James "Bubba" Sims, sister, Leonteen Tina Capers, best friend, Joe "Sonny" Taylor. Jimmy attended Emery School and Dalton State College. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts. His military career began in 1953-Fort Jackson, South Carolina, for "Processing", 1953-1954-Camp Rucker, Alabama, 47th Infantry Division for "Basic and Advanced Training", 1955-1956-Fort Benning, Georgia, 3rd Infantry Division, 41st Field Artillery, 39th Field Artillery and 7th Infantry Regiment, 1956-Air Defense Artillery, Van Nuys, California, 1958-Air Defense Artillery, Thule, Greenland, 1959-Air Defense, Staten Island, New York, 1959-"US Army Signal School", Fort Gordon, Georgia, for "Radio Repair Course", 1959-1960-545th Signal Company, Fort Bliss, Texas, 1960-1962-46th Armored Division, 144th Signal Battalion, Furth, Germany, 1962-1963-1st Cavalry Division, 545th Military Police Company, South Korea, 1963-1965-4th Infantry Division, 4th Aviation Battalion, 1965- "Airborne Training, Fort Benning, Georgia, 1965-"Special Forces Training Group" Fort Bragg, North Carolina, 1965-1966-101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Kentucky, 1966-1967-173rd Airborne Brigade, 173rd Engineer Company, South Vietnam, 1967-1968-73rd Artillery Battalion and Headquarters Company 18th Airborne Corps, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, 1968-1970- 8th Infantry Division, 85th Artillery Battalion Airborne, Wiesbaden, Germany, 1970-1971-16th Signal Brigade, 73rd Signal Battalion, South Vietnam, 1971-1972-82nd Airborne Division, 82 Signal Battalion, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, 1972-1973-4th Army Corps., 16th Signal Battalion, Fort Hood, Texas, 1973-"Goodbye, Gone" Retirement-October 1, 1973!! After his retirement from active military he did a number of jobs which included, Dalton Police Department, Forestry Service Park Ranger, Post Office and Shaw Industries. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Jimmy was always full of life and never met a stranger.

He is survived by his loving wife of thirty years, Cindy Tolliver of Chatsworth, GA; sister, Fleata Parks of Dalton, GA; his children, Jason and Jennifer Gibson of Chatsworth, GA, Shawn and Deanna Gibson of Tennga, GA, James Tolliver III of Nashville, TN, Nelson Tolliver, Cindy Irvin, Cheryl Tolliver of California, Della Jones of North Carolina, Scott Christopher of Dalton, GA; grandchildren, Tumara Hawkins, Crestlyn Gibson, Ethan Gibson, Dustin Gibson, Max Gibson, Morgan Gibson, James Tolliver IV, and several other grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Service to celebrate the life of Mr. James H. "Jimmy" Tolliver Jr. will be held Saturday March 15, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at Ponders Melrose Chapel with Reverend Tommy Hall officiating. Interment will follow in the Murray Memorial Gardens with Jared Tate, Andrew Bonds, Dustin Gibson, Ethan Gibson, Max Gibson, and Robert Capers will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. on Friday.
