Jackie
Patterson
Sep 20, 1940 — May 20, 2026
Mr. Jackie Eugene Patterson, age 86, of Chatsworth, Georgia, and formerly of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at Murray Woods Nursing Home in Chatsworth, Georgia, under the care of Heart Light Hospice.
Jackie was born September 20, 1939, in Dalton, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his father, Jack Patterson; his mother and stepfather, Hartense Blaylock Whitmire and J.W. Whitmire; his beloved aunt/caregiver and uncle, Lucille and Rev. John Shoemaker; brothers, Billy Williams, David Patterson, Rev. Claude Whitmire, and Gerald Whitmire; sisters, Ann and Leroy Epperson; and sister-in-law, Brenda Whitmire.
Although Jackie was congenitally deaf and non-verbal throughout his life, these challenges never diminished his joyful spirit, his love for people, or his appreciation for life. He possessed a remarkable ability to connect with others through kindness, warmth, and genuine happiness. Jackie loved being around people and was known for his loving nature and cheerful disposition. He found great joy in watching Atlanta Falcons football and lived with a spirit that inspired those around him. His happiness was contagious, and his presence brought comfort and smiles to many. Jackie attended the Georgia School for the Deaf in Cave Spring, Georgia, for many years, where he formed memories and experiences that helped shape his life.
More than anything, Jackie loved people. His life stands as a reminder that compassion, joy, and kindness need no spoken words. He touched many lives through his gentle heart and unwavering happiness, leaving behind treasured memories for family, friends, caregivers, and all who knew him.
He is survived by his devoted caregiver and cousin, Mary Shoemaker Painter of Chatsworth, Georgia; brothers, Jerry Whitmire and Lamont Whitmire, both of Dalton, Georgia; sisters, Ida and Frank Hobgood of Rabun Gap, Georgia, Doris and Kenny Jones of Tunnel Hill, Georgia, Sandy Patterson of Amarillo, Texas, and Cynthia Sands of Indio, California; along with several cousins, nieces, nephews, and his many friends and caregivers at Murray Woods who loved him and cared for him faithfully.
