Mrs. Irene V. Mitchell, age 85, of Dalton, Georgia, went to be with the Lord Sunday evening, June 23, 2013 at the local hospital. Irene was born April 3, 1928. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Oscar "Buck" Mitchell, son, Sammy Mitchell, Sr. and daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and John Hudson, Shirley and Virgil Dempsey, mother and step-father, Emma and Jack Holland and her sister, Marie Parsons.

Irene was a devoted wife and mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She loved and cared for her family very much. She was a member of the Harmony Grove Baptist Church.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Karen Mitchell, Ricky and Ingrid Mitchell all of Dalton, GA, Vicky Mitchell of Dalton, GA; daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Thomas Pappas of Dalton, GA, Cathy and Howard Kelly of Chatsworth, GA; grandchildren, Randall and Theresa Dempsey, Shelly Hill, Susan Mitchell, Corby Mitchell, Adrienne and Mark Hankins, Sammy and Heather Mitchell Jr., Josh Kernea and his fiance, Tasha Thomason, Jennifer and Jody Davenport, Melissa and Derek Voiles, Matt and Carrie Mitchell, Kasey Mitchell, Shannon Mitchell, Michelle Mitchell; a number of great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Irene Mitchell will be held Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at the Ponders Melrose Chapel with Reverend Billy Willis officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her husband at the Harmony Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Randall Dempsey, Josh Kernea, James Gibson, Sammy Mitchell, Jr., Brandon Dempsey and Michael Curtis serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 pm until 9:00 p.m. Tuesday and after 10:00 a.m. Wednesday until the service hour.
