Hubert Wilkey
Hubert F. Wilkey went home to be with the Lord on Friday morning, April,1, 2022, at Vitas Hospice House in Lecanto, Fl. He was born in White GA, to the late Franklin and Mamie (Ray) Kagel Wilkey Stager. He lost his father when he was only 4 years old. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Irene (Sparks) Wilkey in 2005, two daughters, Carolyn Ward , an infant daughter, Linda Fay Wilkey, and a brother, William R. Kagel. Survivors include daughter Jane and son-in-law, Jim Halberstadt of Beverly Hills, FL. son-in-law Daniel Ward of Casstown, Ohio. 3 granddaughters, Jessica (Tony) Smith of Sidney, Ohio, Tammy (Joe) Hart, and Tiffany (Jim) Wall of Troy, Ohio. 3 great-granddaughters, 2 great-grandsons and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mr. Wilkey lived his early years in Rome, Ga. He moved his young family to Troy, Ohio in 1953 where he lived for 50 years before moving to Calhoun, Ga. Then to Crystal River, Fl. to be near his daughter. He retired from Brown Bridge Mills ( Kimberly Clark) after 27 years.
In his younger days, he enjoyed his family and his grandchildren..He adored his wife and was lost without her. He enjoyed music, photography, flea markets, garage sales ,auction sales and people, never meeting a stranger.. In his later years, he enjoyed traveling via a motorhome to bluegrass festivals and car shows with his daughter, Jane and son-in-law, Jim. He loved eating out at Cracker Barrel and always wanted to pick up the tab for family and friends.He was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church in Calhoun.Georgia.
Jim and Jane want to thank the staff at Always There Memory Care for the excellent loving care given to our father,. also, a thank you to Vitas Hospice Health Care for his final 3 days.
There will be a graveside service conducted by his nephew, Rev. Bob Sampley, in Calhoun, Ga. on April 8, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at the Fain Cemetery with a luncheon at Cracker Barrel immediately following. Pallbearers will be Larry DeFoor, Chuck Headden, Jerry Holcomb, Darryl Gilbert, Rick Gilbert and Gill Henderson. He will be laid to rest next to love of his life.
