Mr. Hoover Robert Gilbert, age 84, of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life Wednesday morning in the comfort of his home under hospice care. Hoover was born March 19, 1929 in Pikeville, Tennessee, a son of the late Richard and Lydia Beach Gilbert. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife of fifty-eight years, Eva Jane Sapp Gilbert, a son-in-law, Ronald Thornton, brothers, Albert, S.L., Herbert, Donald, Brown and John Gilbert and a sister, Mable Gross.
He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Glenda and James Whitlock of Chatsworth, GA, Violet Thornton of Dalton, GA, Janie and David Wakefield of Crandall, GA; brother, Hobert Gilbert of Spencer, TN; sister, Lillian Creeson of Sparta, TN; grandchildren, Susan Wilkey, Jeanenne Kendrick, Tammie Willis, Selena Taylor, Shannon Wilbanks, Jon Wakefield, Stacy Hopkins and Robby Hopkins; twenty-six great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Hoover Robert Gilbert will be held Saturday, September 21, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. (CST) at the Pikeville Funeral Home, 39299 Hwy. 30, Pikeville, Tennessee, with Reverend David Wakefield officiating. He will be laid to rest at the Blackburn Cemetery in Pikeville, Tennessee, with Dexter Burgess, Cody Kendrick, Justin Hopkins, Darrell Gilbert, Allen Dale Gilbert and Anthony Gilbert servings as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Thursday and at the Pikeville Funeral Home from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday.
