Obituary

Mr. Herman Lee "Bo" Evans, Jr., age 79, of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life on Friday, October 10, 2025, at Erlanger Medical Center. Bo was born October 16, 1945, in Cumberland Gap, Tennessee, a son of the late Herman Lee and Wilsie Middleton Evans, Sr.

Bo lived a life devoted to faith, family, and service. He loved sharing the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and found great joy in ministering to others. Ordained more than sixty-five years ago at Riverview Baptist Church in Cumberland Gap, Tennessee, Bo faithfully served as pastor of several congregations throughout his life. Riverview Baptist Church was the first of many where he preached the Word with conviction, compassion, and love. He was a proud and faithful member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Dalton, Georgia.

Bo retired from the Whitfield County Public Works Department after over thirty-eight years of dedicated service on the paving crew. His work ethic was unmatched, and his coworkers admired his dependability and genuine care for others. He was also a proud member of the Shawanee Masonic Lodge #546 in Harrogate, Tennessee, where he forged lifelong friendships grounded in faith, integrity, and brotherhood.

Bo's greatest joy came from his family. His daughters lovingly described him as "the best man in the entire world" — someone who would help anyone in need, never met a stranger, and found happiness in the simple things of life like fishing, squirrel hunting, and spending time with loved ones.

He was preceded in death by his son, James Edward Evans; brothers, David Evans and William "Pete" Middleton; grandson, Edward Gary Alston Jr.; sister, Shirley Daniels, and former wife, Barbara Sue Law.

He is survived by his children, Sheila Ann Monty of Tipp City, OH; Dennis and Dina Evans, Carlos Lee and Cora Evans all of Tazewell, TN; Rhonda and Terry Cosby of Harrogate, TN; Brittany and Christopher Mooney, and Erica Lee and Joshua Harrison all of Dalton, GA; grandchildren, Amber Sharp and Chris Sharp, Heather Mae Alston, Daniel Cosby, Ryan Lamar Mooney, Matthew Evans, Ashley Codwell, and Kip Harrison; great-grandchildren, Charles Alston, Emily Alston, Rosie Alston, Airana Sharp, Cheyene Sharp, and Uzziah Sharp; sisters, Geneva Bussell of Tazewell, TN, and Christine Bussell of Harrogate, TN; brothers, Kenneth Evans of Harrogate, TN, and Earl Evans of Tazewell, TN; former wife,  Lois Ellison, both of Tazewell, TN; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Herman Lee "Bo" Evans will be held Thursday, October 16, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Baptist Church (1901 City View St., Dalton, GA 30720) with Reverend Adam Harrison officiating. He will be laid to rest at Ponders Colonial Hills Memorial Park Cemetery and Mausoleum with Joshua Harrison, Chris Mooney, Elisha Harrison, Daniel Tuck, Mitchell Whitener, and honored to serve as pallbearers. Masonic graveside rites will be provided by the Forty-third Tri-County Masonic Memorial Team.

The family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, and again Thursday morning after 10:30 a.m. until the service hour.
