Obituary

Ms. Hazel "Nanny" Smith, age 80, of Chatsworth, Georgia, departed this life peacefully on Thursday afternoon, October 16, 2025, at her home.

Hazel was born May 16, 1945, in Murray County, Georgia, a daughter of the late Winston and Eva Mae Strickland Springfield.  She was also preceded in death by her former husband, Roy Wayne Smith, sisters, Elizabeth Harriet "Liz" Layman and Helen Parker, nephews, Anthony "Tony" Starr and John Henderson.

Hazel is survived by her daughters, Celeste Renee Smith, Kimberly Waters and Amber Avery; granddaughters, Emma Waters and Katherine "K.K" Starr; aunt, Frankie Isenhower; nieces and nephews, Melinda Faye Henderson, Glenda Jones, Hoyt Buddy Parker, Thomas Edward and Alisa Starr; her two furbabies, Gracie Lou Waters and Tiny Waters.

Services to celebrate the life of Ms. Hazel Smith will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday October 23, 2025, from the Ponders Melrose Chapel with her family and close friends sharing memories and their love. She will be laid to rest at Ponders Murray Memorial Gardens and Mausoleums with Thomas Starr, Jessie Favors, Alisa Moore and Marcus Favors honored to serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel from 10:00 a.m. until service hour.
