Mr. Harley Dearl Townsend, age 68, of Calhoun, Georgia, departed this life Thursday morning, February 27, 2014 at Erlanger Health Center surrounded by his loving family. Harley was born January 20, 1946 in Woodstock, Georgia, a son to the late Arthur and Millie Davis Townsend. Harley was also preceded in death by brothers; Delmar, Elmer, Raymond, Horace and Arthur Townsend, sisters; Zelma Coker and Virginia Davis, and a daughter Theresa Vanhorn. Harley proudly served his country in the United States Army. He is survived by his wife Alice Townsend of the residence, sons and daughters in law; Ronald and Pamela McComas of Athens, GA, Ernest and Kendra Erwin Jr. of Powder Springs, GA and Tony and Cara Erwin of Chatsworth, a sister Viola Martin of Ellijay, GA; brothers and sisters in law; William and Mary Townsend of Ellijay and Earl Townsend also of Ellijay. He had eleven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Harley Dearl Townsend will be held Saturday March 1, 2014 at 12:00 pm at Ponders Calhoun Chapel with Reverend Emmitt Burgess and Reverend Arthur Corbin officiating. He will be laid to rest at 4:00 pm at Sunrise Memorial Gardens in Lithia Springs, Georgia with Carey McComas, Aaron McComas, Britt Erwin, Justin Roberts, Jacob Erwin, Brad Whited and Matthew Clark serving as pallbearers.
