IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Glenn Trammell
Swinney
March 22, 1952 – October 9, 2025
Mr. Glenn Trammell Swinney, age 73, of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life peacefully on Thursday afternoon, October 9, 2025, at his home.
Born on March 22, 1952, in Dalton, Georgia, Glenn was the son of the late J.B. and Ethel Warmack Swinney. He was also preceded in death by the great love of his life and high school sweetheart, Judy Ann Henson Swinney, who passed away on January 11, 2014, his brother, Reverend Neil Swinney, who passed away on December 26, 2024, and sister-in-law Bennie Jo Swinney who passed away June 5, 2024.
Glenn was a 1970 graduate of Dalton High School and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Dalton State College. Dedicated to serving his community, Glenn devoted over thirty years of his life to law enforcement. He began his career as a Deputy Sheriff and Investigator with the Whitfield County Sheriff's Office and later served as a State Probation Officer. For sixteen years, he was a Chief Investigator for the Conasauga Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office, serving Whitfield and Murray Counties under District Attorneys Jack Partain, Kermit McManus, and Bert Poston. Glenn also worked as a Forensic Investigator for the GreenHouse Children's Advocacy Center and was a proud board member of the North Georgia Fairgrounds.
A man of deep faith, Glenn was a devoted member of Good Hope Baptist Church. Known for his steadfast loyalty, his compassion for others, and his unwavering sense of justice, Glenn's heart was even larger than his imposing stature. He loved his community, his country, and the people around him with genuine devotion. Since the passing of his beloved Judy eleven years ago, he longed for the day they would be reunited—and now, at last, they are together again.
Glenn is survived by his daughter, Kim Swinney; grandson, Brayden Swinney; brother, Harold Swinney, sister-in-law Dot Swinney; as well as his caregivers and dear friends, Claudia Nava and family, Wally and Donna Talley, and Marcus Morris. He also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and countless friends in law enforcement and throughout the community who will cherish his memory.
Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Glenn Trammell Swinney will be held Monday, October 20, 2025, at 4:30 p.m. at Ponders Melrose Chapel, with his pastor, Reverend Chase Cranmore, officiating. He will be laid to rest beside his beloved Judy at Ponders Whitfield Memorial Gardens and Mausoleum. Honored to serve as pallbearers are Gyan Gomez, Rick Pippin, Kevin Caylor, Jeff Silvers, Scott Helton, Mark Higgins, Cory Rosenberger, and John Helton.
The family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel after 2:30 p.m. on Monday until the service hour.
