Obituary

Mrs. Glenda Faye Gentry, age 79, of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life Saturday morning, September 19, 2026, at the home of her daughter in Sugar Valley, Georgia.

Glenda was born February 2, 1947, in New Boston, Texas, a daughter of the late Reverend Albert Wesley Wells and Betty Lou Askew Capps. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband of fifty-three years, Gerald Dennis Gentry, Sr., who passed away November 21, 2015; and her brother, Thomas Wells.

Glenda was a faithful and devoted Christian who loved her Savior, Jesus Christ, with all her heart. She was a lifelong member of The Church of God of The Union Assembly, where her faith and devotion were an important part of her life. Her love for the Lord was not simply something she spoke about—it was reflected in the way she lived, in the way she cared for others, and in the love she showed to her family.

Glenda was a woman of strong faith, great determination, and an unwavering work ethic. She believed in working hard, doing what needed to be done, and never giving up. No matter what life placed before her, she faced it with steadfastness and perseverance. She was the kind of person who kept going when things were difficult and continued to give of herself even when she was tired.

Above all, Glenda loved her family deeply. She was a beautiful person who consistently put the needs of others before her own. Her family was her greatest earthly treasure, and she gave them her love, her strength, her prayers, and her example. She leaves behind a legacy of faithfulness, hard work, selflessness, and unconditional love that will continue through the generations.

Glenda will be lovingly remembered by her children, Dennis and Nancy Gentry of Dalton, GA; Angella Richardson of Hooks, TX; and Marlene and Anthony Faulknor of Sugar Valley, GA; grandchildren, Nick and Courtney Gentry, Elea and Derek Hall, Danielle Mize, Chelsie and Jay Cummings, Marcus Owens, Kyle and Lexy Faulknor; great-grandchildren, Hunter Hall, Kealon Hall, Hudson Gentry, MaKenzie Gentry, Lex Mize-Rodriguez Sawyer Faulknor, and Keira Cummings; siblings, Betty Ann Smith of Leary, TX, Leslie Albert (Sonny) and Hilda Wells of Chatsworth, GA, and Michael Don and Shannon Capps of Texarkana, TX; along with several nieces and nephews and many friends.

A special thank you is extended to Homespun Hospice for their love, compassion, and care shown to Glenda and her family.

Glenda's earthly journey is now complete, but the testimony of her faith, her love for Jesus Christ, her devotion to her church, and her love for her family will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. She worked hard, loved deeply, remained faithful, and never gave up. Her life was a testimony of perseverance and faith, and her family takes comfort in knowing that she has gone home to be with her Lord and Savior.

Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Glenda Faye Gentry will be held Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. at Ponders Melrose Chapel with Reverend Dale Brewer and Reverend Charlie Pratt officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband at West Hill Cemetery, with Waylen Hall, Paul Carroll, Doy Epperson, Mickey Eaton, Bruce Gentry, and Dylan Gentry honored to serve as pallbearers.
