Mrs. Gladys Ponders Vick, age 90, of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life Saturday evening, July 1, 2017 at the Ridgewood Health Care surrounded by her loving family. Gladys was born October 18, 1926 in Gilmer County, Georgia, a daughter of the late Lee and Kizzie Childers Ponders. She was also preceded in death by her husband, J.C. Vick, a son, J.R. Vick, daughter, Bonnie Lee Vick, brothers, Thurman Ponders and Thomas Ponders, sisters, Sarah Lee Chapman, Lucille Pierce, Ruby Silvers, Dorothy Harris and Lois Lillard, grandsons David Baker, Terry Ponders and Jonathan Ponders.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Lillie Ann and Sam Baker, Dianne and Tommy Elrod all of Dalton, GA, Betty Ann Pierce of LaFayette, GA; sons and daughter-in-law, Lonnie and Caroline Vick and J.W. Vick, brother, Dillon Ponders; sister, Marlee Lumpkin all of Dalton, GA; brothers-in-law, James Vick, Raymond Vick and Garvin Vick all of Ellijay, GA; fifteen grandchildren, a number of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Gladys Ponders Vick will be held Wednesday morning, July 5, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Ponders Melrose Chapel with Reverend James Whaley and C.L. Watkins officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband at the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery in Gilmer County, Georgia, with her nephews serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.
Tuesday, July 4, 2017, and after 9:00 a.m. Wednesday until the service hour.
