Mrs. Gertrude Frank "Tootsie" Friar, age 93, of Dalton, Georgia, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ Thursday afternoon, November, 14, 2013 at Regency Park. Tootsie was born May 24, 1920 in Middleboro, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Squire and Mary Crabtree Estes. She was also preceded in death by her husband William Bruce Friar, a granddaughter, Wanda Starnes, a great-grandson, Logan Sanders, sisters, Henrietta McDonald, Sadie Flemming, and Elizabeth Dunn and brothers, Jake Estes, Buford Estes and Doug Estes. Tootsie was a member of The Church of God of the Union Assembly.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Anna and Rev. Lonnie Starnes of Dalton, GA; grandchildren, Rev. Trey and Becky Starnes of Dalton, GA, Rev. Jessie and Jennifer Starnes of Rockmart, GA, Colleetoe and Zach Sanders of Cedartown, GA, Santana and Dadrian Wilson of Texarkana, TX; great-grandchildren, Derishia and Richard Lynch, Falyn and Zane Langham, Jordan Starnes, Bailey Sanders, Zachary Sanders, and Miles Wilson; great-great-grandchildren, Juliana Lynch, Keighton Langham and Kensley Langham; brother, Jim Estes of Tomball, TX; sister, Mary Van Meter of Rome, GA; several nieces, nephews and many friends.
Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Gertrude "Tootsie" Friar will be held Sunday, November 17, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at The Church of God of the Union Assembly with Reverend Paul B. Pratt officiating. She will be laid to rest at the West Hill Cemetery. Zach Sanders, Richard Lynch, Jordan Starnes, Zachary Sanders, Richard Jackson and Zane Langham will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Miles Wilson and Keighton Langham. The family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Saturday and after 11:00 a.m. Sunday until the service hour.Arrangements by Ponders Melrose Chapel, Funeral Home, Cemetery, Crematory and Florist, Dalton, Ga. 706.226.4002
