Mrs. Geraldine G. "Memaw" Mathews, age 86, of Fairmount, Georgia, departed this life Thursday afternoon, October 29, 2015 at the home of her son in Pickens County, Georgia. Memaw was born October 17, 1929 in Calhoun, Georgia, the only child of the late Henry Woodfin and Angie Ila Dean Hightower. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband, Homer L. Mathews who died, September 2, 1984, a still born son who died April, 1952, a son, Charles Kenneth "Rosey" Mathews who died November 1, 2007, a son-in-law, Wayne Mann and a daughter-in-law, Verlene Mathew. Memaw loved to do needle work, quilt, listening to gospel music, especially the Inspirations. But the true love of her life was her family who will miss her dearly.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Sybil and Steve Crider, Sandra and David Bruch all of Fairmount, GA, Gail and Randy Burch of Calhoun, GA, Karen and Tony Cannon of Plainview, GA; sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry "Lum" Mathews, Randy Joe "Boo Boo" and Cheryle Mathews all of Fairmount, GA, James "Flute" and Patricia Mathews of Cartersville, GA, Donald "Goat" and Deborah Mathews of Ranger, GA, Gary "Bull" and Sherry Mathews of Jasper, GA, Tim "Waldo" and Teresa Mathews, Ann Mathews all of Calhoun, GA; twenty-three grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Geraldine "Memaw" Mathews will be held Monday, November 2, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Ponders Fairmount Chapel with Reverend Reggie Temples and Casey Mathews officiating. Music will be provided by Alan Price and Regina Mathews. She will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband at Goshen Baptist Church Cemetery in Cherokee County, Georgia, with her grandsons serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at Ponders Fairmount Chapel from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Saturday and from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Sunday and after 11:00 a.m. Monday until the service hour.
