Mrs. Geneva Downer, age 79, of Resaca, GA, departed this life, Monday February 20, 2017 at Hamilton Medical Center. Geneva was born August 28, 1937 in Sparta, TN, the daughter of the late James Simpson Hood and Rose Lee Rector Hood. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Doyle Downer; brother, Doyle Hood; sister, Mary Ruth Hudson and Margaret White. Geneva loved tending to her flowers and spending time with her church family. She also found joy doing puzzles. She was a member of Dalton Holiness Church.

Mrs. Geneva Downer is survived by her sons, Wendall and Jane Downer of Resaca, GA, Kenneth and Annette Downer of Emerson, GA, Gary Downer and Joyace Jones of Ellijay, GA, Johnny Downer of Savannah, GA; brother, James and Arlene Hood of Chicago, IL; seven grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Geneva Downer will be held, Monday February 27, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. from Ponders Calhoun Chapel, with Brother Edward Atchley officiating. Interment will follow the service at Fairview Cemetery, Hall Memorial Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends Sunday February 26, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. from Ponders Calhoun Chapel.
