Mrs. Frances Ruby Chastain, 79, of Calhoun, Georgia, departed this life Thursday morning, February 13, 2020 at Gordon Hospital.

Mrs. Chastain was born in Mineral Bluff, Georgia on May 20, 1940.  She was the only daughter of the late Clifford Brownlow Merrell and Geraldine Gibbs Merrell.  In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, Billy Joe Chastain who died in 1998; a grandson, Jeremy O'Dell; and brothers, Reece Gibbs, Billy Merrell, Thomas Merrell, Danny Merrell, and Donnie Merrell.

She was a member of Galilee Baptist Church in Chatsworth, Georgia.

Mrs. Chastain is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Alvin and Debra O'Dell of Dalton, Bobby and Melissa Stephens of Chatsworth, David and Annette Stephens of Calhoun; brothers and sister-in-law, Harold Merrell of Blue Ridge, Clifford "Pete" and Teresa Merrell of Alabama; special friends, Sammy and Irene Bramblett of Calhoun; 11 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.

Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Frances Chastain will be held on Sunday, February 16, 2020 at 2:00 PM from Ponders Calhoun Chapel.  Reverend David Peeler and Reverend Doug Hawkins will officiate.  Marion Clayton will provide music.  Mrs. Chastain will be laid to rest beside her husband at Fidele Cemetery.  Chad Lay, Bill Lay, Stevie Lay, Logan O'Dell, Kevin Adams, and Josh Young will serve as pallbearers.  Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Young and Sam Swims.

Mrs. Chastain's family will receive friends on Saturday, February 15, 2020 from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Ponders Calhoun Chapel.
