Mr. Floyd "Wendell Ray" Rich, age 84, of Dalton, Georgia departed this life, Tuesday March 14, 2017 at the local hospital. He was born on October 26, 1932 in Blairsville, Georgia, a son to the late Harry Benjamin and Mamie Lillian Deaver Rich. He is also preceded by his step-mother Mamie Rodgers Rich, sister; Carmel Tutherow, and brothers; Solomon and Roland Rich. He was retired from the United States Air Force as a Master Sargent. He retired from Lockheed Martin as a software engineer as well as from Unisys and Merand. He was a member of the Emmaus Baptist Church. He loved his church and his church family. He was famous for his "Papa burgers" and a quote "I have no regrets, I have lived life, I have loved life"
He is survived by his loving wife of 641/2 years, Annie Ruth Rich of the residence, daughter, Deborrah Carroll of Dalton, Georgia, son and daughter in law; Michael and Edna Rich of Dalton, Georgia, grandchildren and spouses; Heather and Adam Rich-Matteson, Casey Lynn and Billy Keith Carroll-Cowart,Lacey and Adam Carroll-Bennett and Amy and Tony Rich Sassman. Great grandchildren; Triston Findley, Lane Findley, Makala Carroll, Colter Long, Titus Matteson, Gage Long, Josiah Sassman, Adain Bennett, Emma Sassman and Honorary great grandchildren Emily Pierce and Davana Sanders.
Services to celebrate the life of Floyd Wendell Rich will be held Thursday March 16, 2017 at 7:00pm at Ponders Melrose Chapel with Reverend Scott Parrish officiating. A graveside service will be held Friday morning March 17, 2017 at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia at 10:00 am with full military honors Pall bearers will be Adam Matteson, Triston Findley, Lane Findley, Keith Cowart, Adam Bennett, Tony Sassman with honorary pall bearers; Colter Long, Gage Long, Titus Matteson, Josiah Sassman, and Adain Bennett. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to his great grand children's college fund identified as the Rich Family Education Fund at any Regions Bank with contact Dana Johnson. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 4:00 pm until the service hour.
