Mr. Eugene Akins, age 72, of Dalton, GA, departed this life Sunday, November 27, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Eugene was born February 16, 1944 in Dalton, GA. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lee and Nora Akins, stepdad, Edker Busie. He was a member of the Tilton Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by his loving wife of forty five years, Linda Whitfield Akins of the residence; mother, Emogene Busie; daughter and son-in-law, Cara and Mohammed Belhaj; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Phil Holtzclaw all of Dalton, GA; grandchildren, Olivia Helmes, Elisha Helmes, Jessica Fyffe; great grandchild, Alayna Fyffe.

Service to celebrate the life of Mr. Eugene Akins will be held Wednesday November 30, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. from the Ponders Melrose Chapel with Reverend Glen Stout and Reverend Billy Willis officiating. Interment will follow in the Center Valley Cemetery in Murray County with Mohammed Belhaj, Charles Whitfield, Elisha Helmes, Keith Holtzclaw, Jason Holtzclaw and Donald Ring serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
