Erik Mendoza, 17, of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life Saturday, June 15, 2019 at the Scottish Rite Children's Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.

Erik was born on September 6, 2001 in Dalton, Georgia.  He had attended Dalton High School and was a member at St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

Erik is survived by his mother, Luz Adriana Mendoza; step-father, Roy William Deason; grandmother, Rufina Mendoza of Oaxaca, Mexico; sister and brother-in-law, Yerania Mendoza Lopez and Israel Lopez; niece, Jackie Lopez; uncles, Gerardo Zurita Mendoza, Fernando Zurita Mendoza, and Angel Zurita Mendoza; aunts, Maria Mendoza, Estefana Nolasco, and Agustina Mendoza; godparents, Agustina Mendoza, Raymundo Pacheco, and Elena Cotrina; several more family members also survive.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at 12:00 Noon at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Father Duvan Gonzalez officiating.  Interment will follow at Ponders Whitfield Memorial Gardens.  Israel Lopez, Fernando Zurita Mendoza, Gerardo Zurita Mendoza, Angel Zurita Mendoza, Acxel Cruz, and Jose Antonio Vazquez will serve as pallbearers.

Erik's family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM and on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 from 9:00 AM until 10:30 AM.
