Mrs. Ella Mae Owen, age 91, of Tunnel Hill, Georgia, departed this life Monday October 19, 2015 at her residence surrounded by her loving children. Ella was born July 6, 1924 in Bluefield, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Milton and Emma Leffew Steakley. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Roy Lee Owen, daughter, Gail Viator, sons, Gerald Owen and Ronnie Owen, a granddaughter, Julie Shannon Skiffen and her sister, Pauline Brown. Ella was the rock of her family and was always in charge.
She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Larry and Carolyn Owen, Henry Lee Owen and Jeff Owen all of Tunnel Hill, GA; daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Danny Skiffen of Tunnel Hill, GA, Kathy and Brian Asherbranner of Ranger, GA, Penny Duke and Joey Frazier of Villanow, GA, Lisa and Joseph Bagley of Varnell, GA; grandchildren, Tiffany and Sean Rogers, Chase and Alex Duke, Chris and Rebecca Patterson, Danny and Tara Skiffen, Kimberly and Kyle Stringer, Keysha and Elvis Elrod, Angela and Cole McNabb, Jessica and Daniel Fritts, Shane and Stacey Owen, David Owen, Brian Ragsdale, Tina Washington, Renae Owen, Veronica Viator, Samantha Tarvin, Angela Huggins, Vickie Viator, Valerie Naquin and Randall Owen; special daughters-in-law, Cindy Owen and Carolyn Owen; special friends, Doris and Victor Allen of Tunnel Hill, GA; twenty six great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Ella Mae Owen will be held Thursday, October 22, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Ponders Melrose Chapel with Reverend Wesley Noland and Chris Patterson officiating. She will be laid to rest at Dunagan Cemetery in Rocky Face, Georgia, with Chris Patterson, Shane Owen, Danny Skiffen, Chase Duke, David Owen and Brian Ragsdale serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Wednesday and after 10:00 a.m. Thursday until the service hour. Special thanks to her grandchildren, Chris Patterson, Tiffany Rogers and Kimberly Stringer. In lieu of flowers the family request donations to be made to the family.
