Mrs. Elizabeth Harriet "Liz" Layman age 79, of Chatsworth, Georgia, departed this life Friday May 19, 2023, at her home. Liz was born August 23, 1943 in Murray County, Georgia, a daughter of the late Winston and Eva Mae Strickland Springfield.  She was also preceded in death by a son, Anthony "Tony" Starr, a nephew, John Henderson, a sister, Helen Parker and a brother-in-law, Roy Wayne Smith.

Liz was a member of Faith Baptist Church.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas Edward and Alesa Starr; granddaughter, Katherine Starr; sister, Hazel Smith; aunt, Frankie Isenhower; nieces, Celeste Smith, Kimberley Waters, Emma Waters and Amber Avery; nephew, Hoyt Buddy Parker; her fur baby Chihuahua, Anna Belle all of Chatsworth, Georgia.

Service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Elizabeth Harriet "Liz" Layman will be held Thursday morning, May 25, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Ponders Melrose Chapel with Reverend Denny Smith officiating.  She will be laid to rest with her son at Ponders Murray Memorial Gardens in Chatsworth, Georgia, with Thomas Starr, Chris Gaddis, Stephen Smith and Randall Miller honored to serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and after 9:00 a.m. Thursday until the service hour.
