Obituary

Ms. Edwina Louise Roland, age 77, of Calhoun, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at The Oaks at Fairmount Personal Care Home.

Born on January 27, 1949, in Jasper, Georgia, Edwina was the daughter of the late Miller Edwin Roland and Evelyn June Mahan (Godfrey).

Edwina lived a life defined by service, determination, and an unwavering commitment to others. She proudly served as a police officer with the City of Atlanta and ultimately as a Sheriff’s Deputy with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department, dedicating herself to protecting and serving her community with courage and integrity. She also valued education and personal growth, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism with double minors in English and Criminal Justice from Georgia State University. Her education reflected her love of learning and her ability to communicate with honesty and conviction.

Edwina was one of a kind. She was known for speaking her mind and telling it like it was, but those who knew her best understood that her honesty came from a place of love. Edwina had a sharp wit and was an avid reader. She could read two or three books a week. She was by far the “smartest person in the room” and had the unique ability to gather the facts and propose a plan of action. If you needed advice, a helping hand, or someone to stand beside you, Edwina was the person you called. She was dependable and fiercely loyal.

When her health allowed, Edwina attended Fairmount Methodist Church, where she found comfort in her faith and fellowship.

She leaves behind a family who loved her dearly, including a brother, Byron Roland (Beverly) of Fairmount, Georgia; a sister, Janie Bruner (Tony) of Gainesville, Georgia; and a brother, Chris Godfrey (Laura) of Pace, Florida; along with several beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will forever cherish her memory.

In keeping with Edwina's wishes, there will be no services at this time.

Edwina will be remembered for her courage, intelligence, quick wit, unwavering honesty, and the countless ways she touched the lives of others. She leaves behind a legacy of strength, compassion, and service that will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
