Mr. Douglas Walter "Doug" Dennard, age 72, of Rocky Face, Georgia, departed this life, November 18, 2020 at his home. Doug was born February 27, 1948 in Long Beach, California, a son of the late Douglas W. and Joanne Kmitas, Sr. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Margaret "Jody" Sweetnich Dennard and his brother, Joseph R. "Joe" Dennard.
Doug was a 1968 graduate of Dalton High School. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War on the USS Forrestal. He was a gunsmith and machinist by trade, and owned North Georgia Restorations. A skilled and avid outdoorsman, Doug enjoyed hunting and fishing, and knew every mountain, creek and valley in the Dalton area like the back of his hand.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Janel Dennard; granddaughter, Ellis Margaret Dennard all of Atlanta, GA; sister and brother-in-law Linda and Mike Thomas of Ocala, FL; nephew, Jimmy and his wife, Laura Magamoll of Houston , TX.
Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Douglas Walter "Doug" Dennard, Jr. will be held Monday, December 7, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at Ponders Celebration Mausoleum (710 w. Cuyler Street) with his son, Mark Dennard officiating. He will be entombed with his beloved wife in the Celebration Mausoleum. The family will receive family and friends at the mausoleum after 12:30 p.m. until the service time.
