Ms. Dorothy "Dot" McCrory age 88 of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life Monday, May 2, 2022 at the Regency Park Health Care Center. She was born May 15, 1933. Dot as she was known to friends, was preceded in death by her parents Elma McCrory and Boyd Hicks as well as a brother Jack Hicks.

She is survived by a sister-in-law Goldie Hicks of Punxutawney, PA and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dot spent 44 years in education. She was a teacher and counselor at Dalton High School for 27 years and the GED administrator at Dalton State College for ten years. She also taught in New Jersey and served as an officer in the United States Army. She received degrees from New York University, the University of Chattanooga, and the University of Georgia. From the time she moved to Dalton in 1963, she was a very active member of the community. A member of Lesche Woman's Club for over 50 years, Dot wrote a poem for each meeting for over 30 years. She was a member of the Women's Prayer Group at Rock Bridge Community Church. She was very active with Dalton Little Theatre both as a director and as an actress. She was a big supporter of Artistic Civic Theatre.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Wednesday May 4, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Matt Evans officiating, at Stage 123 Rock Bridge at 123 West Gordon St. Dalton, A 30720. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

In lieu of flowers Dot requested that you send a donation to Georgia Sheriffs Cherokee Estate or Dalton Whitfield Friends of the Library.
