Mr. Dillon H. Ponder, age 78 of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life Saturday afternoon April 27, 2019 at the local hospital surrounded by his loving family. Dillion was born April 26, 1941 in Ellijay, Georgia, a son of the late Lee and Kizzie Childers Ponder.  He was also preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of fifty-six years, Doris Murleen Bell Ponders who died December 1, 2014, also three brothers, Tom, C.R. and Thurman Ponders and seven sisters, Gladys Vick, Dorothy Harris, Ruby Silvers, Lucille Pierce, Sara Lee Chapman, Lois Lillard and Loby Davis, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ralph and Louise Stafford Bell.

He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Vickie and Roger Stanley, Linda and David Ellsworth, Kim and Jamie Howard all of Dalton, GA, Barbara and Rick Hasty of Rocky Face, GA; sons and daughters-in-law, Ronnie Lee and Robin Ponder of Crandall, GA, James Wallace and Rhonda Ponder of Ellijay, GA, Dewayne Ponder of Dalton, GA, Dillon and Angie Ponder, Jr., of Mineral Bluff, GA; sister, Marlee Lumpkin of Dalton, GA; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Inez and Lelon Gibson, Dianne and Randy Sanders, Wendell Bell and his breakfast buddy, Ricky Bell all of Dalton, GA; eighteen grandchildren, twenty-nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Dillon H. Ponder, Sr., will be held Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Ponders Melrose Chapel with Reverend Grady Bartley officiating.  He will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife at the Varnell Cemetery with Matt Hensley, Trey Hasty, Preston Howard, Carlie Ponder, Michael Outlaw and Dean Myers honored to serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Tuesday and after 11:00 a.m. Wednesday until the service hour.
