Mr. Dennis "Gene" Townsend 78 of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life Saturday May 25, 2019 at the local hospital. He was born June 6, 1940 in Murray County, a son of the late Richard Ginn and Della Lee Shahan Townsend. He was also preceded in death by two sisters. Margaret Blackwell and Dorothy Parson, and nine brothers, Marv, Garland, Wesley, Troy, Ben, Paul, Charles, Jimmy and David Townsend. He proudly served his country in the United States Army.

He is survived loving wife, Paulette Patterson Townsend of the residence; daughters, Andrea Denise Townsend of Dalton, GA; Sonja Townsend of Crandall, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Dennis Lane and Peggy Townsend of Crandall, GA; sister and brother-in-law, Cheryl and Wallace Maddron of Dalton, GA; several nieces and nephews.

Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Dennis "Gene" Townsend will be held Wednesday May 29, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. from the Ponders Melrose Chapel with Chaplin Floyd Davis officiating. Interment will follow in the Ponders Whitfield Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
