In Loving Memory of Ms. Denise Kaye Boman Dowdey

Ms. Denise Kaye Boman Dowdey, aged 72, of Dalton, Georgia, and formerly of Hueytown, Alabama, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2024, at Regency Park. Born on June 23, 1952, in Fairfield, Alabama, Denise was the cherished daughter of the late Grady Russell and Mary Sue Gilmer Boman. She was preceded in death by her beloved sister, Loretta Allison.

Denise's life was a testament to her deep-seated passions and unwavering dedication. A proud 1970 graduate of Hueytown High School, she furthered her education at the University of Alabama before earning her R.N. degree from Carraway Methodist Hospital School of Nursing. Her career as a critical care nurse at Carraway Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama, was marked by her profound compassion and skill, touching countless lives with her expertise and kindness.

Her love for nursing was matched only by her enthusiasm for Alabama football and the Atlanta Braves, two passions that brightened her life. Denise's home was always alive with the excitement of game days, where her spirited support for her teams was as steadfast as her dedication to her profession.

An avid reader, Denise found joy in delving into books, particularly those on Southern history and science fiction. Her conversations were often enriched with insights from her latest read, reflecting her deep curiosity and engagement with the world of literature. Her love of reading was complemented by her devotion to her feline companions, earning her the endearing title of the "Rescuer of Cats."

Denise was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, where her faith and community spirit were evident. She is survived by her sister, Amelia "Midge" (Herb) Gibson of Dalton, GA; nieces Lauren (Ryan) Jerman of Woodstock, GA, and Rachel Gibson of Athens, GA; great-nephew Henry Ellis Jerman and his little brother due to arrive in October; and special friends Vickie Martin of Jasper, AL, and Terry Coggins of Chattanooga, TN.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Regency Park for their compassionate care, especially Vivian Sparks, and to Peeples Cancer Center and Dr. Eric Turner, Dr. Lisa Duhaime, and Kim Bailey, NP, for their support.

A memorial service and mass will be held at a later date to honor Denise's remarkable life and the indelible impact she had on all who knew her.
