Mr. David Nelson Thornton, age 75, of Lafayette, Georgia departed this life on Wednesday December 11, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family. David was born July 1, 1938 in Dalton, GA, a son of the late William and Viola Campbell Sulzberger. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was a police officer with the Dalton Police Department and retired from the Dalton Public Schools. He loved to go hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Evelyn Virginia Thornton of the residence; son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Kathy Thornton of Lafayette, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Kellie and Timothy Dover of Chatsworth, GA; grandchildren, Wesley and Keisha Dover, Devin Dover, Zane Thornton, and Tyson Thornton; great grandchild, Braxlyn Dover; sister, Carol Shroeder of Medina, OH.

Graveside services to celebrate the life of Mr. David Nelson Thornton will be held Tuesday December 17, 2013 at 12:00 noon from the Concord United Methodist Church Cemetery in Walker County, GA with Dr. Danny Cochran officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. on Monday.
