Obituary

Mr. Daniel Walker Lofty, age 90 of Tunnel Hill, Georgia, departed this life Friday September 25, 2020 at his residence.   Daniel was born July 10, 1930 in Whiteside, Tennessee, a son of the late Tony Alexander and Ethel Ellen Massingill Lofty.  He was also preceded in death by the mother of his children, Kanola Lofty, a daughter, Kathy Ann Lofty, sons and daughter-in-law, James and Sandy Lofty and David Lofty, grandchildren, Kim Ryon and Tony Lofty, sisters, Sally Baker, Stella Workman, Beatie Smythers Becky Weeks and Nancy Rogers and his best friend, Thomas Burson.

Daniel was a member and Sunday School Superintendent at Royal Baptist Church in Tunnel Hill, Georgia. He was the co-owner of Lofty's Textile Waste Company.

Daniel loved to work and loved everyone. He finished well.

He is survived by his wife, Dovie Lofty of the residence; sons and daughters-in-law, Earnest and Susan Lofty of Dalton, GA, Albert and Judy Lofty of Calhoun, GA, John and Darlene Lofty and Sharon Lofty all of Rocky Face, GA,; granddaughters who were like daughters to him, Connie and Mark Priest of Dalton, GA,  Ann Lofty of Rocky Face, GA, Debbie and Bobby Cantrell of Rome, GA step-son, Melvin Burson of Tunnel Hill, GA;  brother, Bill Lofty of Dalton, GA; sister, Martha Franks of Ranger, GA; special friend, Freddy Keith of Ider, AL; twelve grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Daniel Walker Lofty will be held Monday, September 28, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Ponders Melrose Chapel with Reverend Melvin Burson and Deacon Charles Franklin officiating and his son, John Lofty delivering the eulogy.  He will be laid to rest at Ponders Colonial Hills Memorial Park Cemetery with Charles Franklin, Josh Cain, Kyle Lofty, Whit Lofty, Jeremy Lofty and Jonathan Melton honored to serve as pallbearers.  The family will friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Sunday and after 11:00 a.m. Monday until the service hour.

Due to the National health crisis and the Covid-19 virus, masks must be worn properly at all times and social distancing must be observed when visiting the funeral home.
