Obituary

Dana Fowler Miller, 63, passed away on May 31, 2026, surrounded by friends and loved ones. Born and raised in Dalton, Georgia, Dana graduated from Brenau University in 1985, and following graduation made Gainesville her hometown. Dana treasured her time at Brenau with classmates and her beloved Alpha Delta Pi sisters. She held her sisters close to heart and formed bonds that she held tightly for the remainder of her life.

Dana’s professional career began at the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce where she was a communications director and event coordinator of the “Corn Tassel” festival in Downtown Gainesville, now known as Mule Camp Market. After joining the team at INK (Interactive Neighborhood for Kids) as a marketing specialist, she returned to the Greater Hall Chamber in 2007 as Vice President of Education where she oversaw leadership programs for over a decade. Through her role as Leadership Hall County coordinator, she built many professional relationships and life-long friendships. Dana’s passion for youth and education became evident as one of the developers of the Youth Leadership Hall program. In 2017, she joined the team at Junior Achievement of Northeast Georgia, taking pride in the organization’s mission to empower young people and its valuable programs that drive long-term outcomes and success for students.

Forever community-minded and always a team player, Dana was the recipient of many awards and accolades for her volunteerism, always contributing her time and energy to help others. She served the Boys & Girls Clubs of Lanier in many capacities, again using her talents and skills to benefit our youth. She volunteered on the Club’s Marketing Committee, was heavily involved in Board Development, served as Vice President followed by Board Chair. At the Edmondson-Telford Child Advocacy Center, she assisted with planning and executing its annual golf tournament for 30 years. She was awarded the Service to Brenau Award by her alma mater in 1994 and the Service to the Community Award in 2014. Over the years, she served Brenau as Philanthropy Chair, member of the Alumni Association Board, and May Day Chair. She also served as an alumna advisor for Alpha Delta Pi, Lambda Chapter. Dana supported Gateway Domestic Violence Center and assisted with planning the organization’s annual fundraising gala. She served her beloved Lakewood Baptist Church and her pastor, Dr. Tom Smiley, in many capacities over the years – from hospitality committees to worship services and benevolence ministries – always giving back to her church and our community.

For Dana, friendships were everything. Her greatest joy was her clan of dedicated, life-long friends that she loved wholeheartedly. This group of women were not just friends – they were her family – and included Cindy Askounis, Jessica Butler, Marie Braswell, Mimi Collins, Sue Cronmiller, Sue Gross, Laura Hughs, Gail Hough, Nancy Norton, Sandy Pethel, Sis Ware and Kemie West, just to name a few. She cherished her dear young friend, Mae Butler, with whom she developed a special relationship full of fun and laughter.

Dana was fun-loving, vibrant and full of sparkling personality. She is best remembered for her broad, beautiful smile, over-salting foods, laughter snorts, a vast collection of purses, her strong Christian faith, a wide inventory of lipstick products, fierce loyalty, killer deviled eggs, Georgia Bulldog fandom, lover of her dogs Simba and Cato, zero math skills, and a ridiculous phobia of bananas.

Dana is preceded in death by her parents, James and Ann Fowler, and her dear Aunt Lou Robinson. She is survived by her sister Charlotte Supe’ (Michael) of Mobile, Alabama; niece Ansley Supe’ and great nephew Thomas Aucoin; and a number of aunts and cousins.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 7 at 3:00 p.m. at Lakewood Baptist Church, 2235 Thompson Bridge Road in Gainesville, and officiated by Drs. Tom and Tyler Smiley. A graveside service will be held at Whitfield Memorial Gardens in Dalton on Monday, June 8 at 1:00 p.m.
