Obituary

Mrs. Cornelia May Johns, age 103, of Dalton, GA, departed this life, Saturday July 29, 2017 at the local hospital. Cornelia was born September 13, 1913 at Praters Mill farm in Varnell, Georgia, a daughter of the late James Kenneth and Vienne Cole Spann. She was also preceded in death by her husband of fifty-nine years, Hubert Lafayette Johns who died, August 21, 1998. She was also preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Jane Johns, her sisters, Winola Clark, Lucy Johns, Katherine Powell and Gene Bagley and her brothers, Ernest Spann, Fred Spann and J.K. Spann.

Cornelia was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a true Christian lady. She was a member of Five Springs United Methodist Church and had attended since she was three years old. Her life was dedicated to Christ and loving and caring for her family. She loved cooking, gardening and working in her flower beds.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Joy and Joe Fleming of Calhoun, GA; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Peggi Johns of Dalton, GA, and Ronald N. and Sabrina Johns of Ooltewah, TN; grandchildren, Tony and Lori Johns, Wendy and Kevin Buttrey, Jason and Amanda Johns, Amanda and Rory Vaden, Christopher and Erin Johns; great-grandchildren, Anna Johns, Marylee Johns, Luke Johns, Neely Buttrey, Kinsley Buttrey, Jameson Johns, Isla Johns and Jasper Vaden; special caregivers, Sandra Speer, Michelle Cleary and Connie Chapman; several nieces and nephews.

Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Cornelia Mae Johns will be held August 1, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Five Springs United Methodist Church with Reverend Ann Fleming, Reverend Sandra Franklin and Reverend Tom Mosley officiating. She will be laid to rest at Ponders Whitfield Memorial Gardens with Rory Vaden, Jason Johns, Christopher Johns, Tony Johns, Luke Johns, Kevin Buttrey and Kenneth Spann serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Monday and at her church after 12:00 p.m. Noon Tuesday until the service hour.
